Dog Training Treats…How to choose the best motivator for your dog?

You want to train your dog with treats that your dog likes- not the ones you think he should like.

To figure out what will work best to motivate your dog, try this:

1.    Gather together a bunch of things your dog might like. This could include things like hotdog bits, boiled chicken, peanut butter, pre-packaged training treats, lunch meat, sausage, or cheese(s).

2.    Put one treat in each of your hands and make a fist.

3.    Let your dog inspect your fists with his nose.

4.    Whichever hand he shows the most interest in is his favorite of these two.

5.    Keep his current favorite in your fist and try another treat in the other hand.

6.    Again, let him pick his current favorite.

7.    Continue until you have gone through all your options. The one that is still in your hand when you are done is the favorite.
